How to Replace Steering Wheel on Buick Park Avenue,Lesabre & Pontiac Bonneville?



Please Note:---
The Procedure mentioned is Exactly similar for All this mentioned car models.
Buick LeSabre, Buick Park Avenue & Pontiac Bonneville.

The Steering wheel Replacing details are as follows:---

Removal & Installation

  1. Disable the air bag system. Refer to the Chassis Electrical Section.
  2. On the back side of the steering wheel you will find 4 openings for removing the driver inflator module.
  3. Position the steering wheel so that 2 of the opening/holes are on top.
  4. Adjust and install Air Bag Remover tool J-44298 into 2 of the holes.
  5. Push the handle back towards the instrument panel, releasing the 2 spring-loaded fasteners at the same time.
  6. Turn the steering wheel and open the tool. Use one of the tool fingers to remove cruise control lever cover in order to gain access.
  7. Position and insert the tool into place around the cruise control lever. Repeat the procedure that you used on other two opening/holes.
  8. Pull the driver inflator module gently away from the steering wheel.
  9. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and the electrical connectors from the driver inflator module.
  10. Remove the horn grounded lead from the threaded hole in the steering wheel.
  11. Rotate the horn contact lead counterclockwise ¼ turn.
  12. Remove the horn contact lead from the steering column cam tower.
  13. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
  14. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector.
  15. Remove the weight block from the steering wheel base, if equipped.
  16. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.
  17. Note the mark on the steering shaft and the steering wheel in order to ensure proper alignment during installation.
  18. Install Steering Wheel Puller assembly J-42578 and J-1859-A to the steering wheel.
  19. Use the tools to separate the steering wheel from the steering column.
  20. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column.
  21. Remove the tools from the steering wheel.
To install:
  1. Route the wiring through the steering wheel.
  2. Align the mark on the steering wheel with the mark on the shaft.
  3. Install the steering wheel.
  4. Install the steering wheel retaining nut and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  5. Install the weight block to the steering wheel if equipped.
  6. Connect the steering wheel electrical connector.
  7. Connect the horn ground lead into the lower left threaded hole in the steering wheel.
  8. Connect the horn contact lead into the steering column cam tower.
  9. Rotate the horn contact turn ¼ turn clockwise to lock.
  10. Connect the inflator module electrical connectors and CPA.
  11. Align the driver inflator module fasteners to the steering column fastener holes.
  12. Push the driver inflator module firmly into the steering column to engage the fasteners.
  13. Enable the air bag system.
