How to replace Rocker Arms or Shafts on Acura?


Rocker Arms/Shafts
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION: ----

The details are as follows : -----

2001-02 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
    Air intake tube
    Ignition coil covers
    Intake manifold cover
    Intake manifold
    Valve cover
  3. Loosen the valve adjuster locknuts and screws so that all valves are closed.
  4. Loosen the rocker arm shaft bolts evenly in sequence.

  5. Remove the rocker arms and shafts from the vehicle as an assembly.
    NOTE
    Keep all valvetrain components in order for assembly.
  6. Remove the rocker arms and springs from the rocker arm shafts.
To install:
  1. Assemble the rocker arms and springs to the rocker arm shafts in their original positions.
  2. Install the rocker arm assemblies. Tighten the bolts in sequence and in multiple passes to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).

  3. Adjust the valve clearance.
  4. Install or connect the following:

    Valve covers
    Intake manifold
    Intake manifold cover
    Ignition coil covers
    Air intake tube
    Negative battery cable
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
2003-06 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
    Intake manifold cover
    Ignition coil covers
    Ignition coils
    Dipstick
    2 bolts attaching the harness holder
    Positive Crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose
    Injector electrical connections
    Power steering hose bracket bolt and the harness holder bolts
    Harness clamps and the breather hose
    Valve cover
    Rocker arm adjusting screws. refer to the illustration for location.
  3. Remove the rocker arm assembly as follows:
    1. Unscrew the rocker shaft bolts 2 turns at a time in a criss-cross pattern to avoid damaging the vales or rocker assembly.
    2. Do not remove the rocker shaft bolts. These bolts keep the springs and rocker arms on the shafts.
  4. Loosen the valve adjuster locknuts and screws so that all valves are closed.

  5. Remove the rocker arms and shafts from the vehicle as an assembly.
    NOTE
    Keep all valvetrain components in order for assembly.
  6. Remove the rocker arms and springs from the rocker arm shafts.

To install:
  1. Assemble the rocker arms and springs to the rocker arm shafts in their original positions.
  2. Install the rocker arm assemblies. Tighten the bolts in sequence and in multiple passes to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).

  3. Adjust the valve clearance.
  4. Install or connect the following:

    Valve covers
    Harness clamps and the breather hose
    Power steering hose bracket bolt and the harness holder bolts
    Injector electrical connections
    PCV hose
    2 bolts attaching the harness holder
    Dipstick
    Ignition coils and torque the retainers to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
    Ignition coil covers
    Intake manifold cover
    Negative battery cable
