REMOVAL & INSTALLATION:----

The details to replace radiator and engine fan is as follows :-----

2001-02 Models

NOTE

Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces. To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion. Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.

1. Remove the radiator cover.
2. Remove the front bumper, as follows: 
   
   NOTE

   Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the front bumper. Take care not to scratch the front bumper and body. Put on gloves to protect your hands.
   
   
   
   NOTE

   When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage. Be careful not to scratch the front bulkhead and body.
   
   
   1. Detach the clips, then remove the front bulkhead cover.
      
      NOTE

      Refer to the accompanying illustration for bumper removal and installation.
   2. Remove the bolts (A) securing both front under spoilers (B), front bumper (C), and both front inner fenders (D).
   3. Remove the screws (E) and clips (F, G).
   4. With the help of an assistant, pull the front bumper forward to release the hooks (H) of the center upper beam (I) and corner upper beam (J), then remove the bumper from the body. If necessary, remove the clips (K), then remove the under spoilers.
   5. Disconnect both front fog light connectors (L).
   6. If necessary, detach the clips (M) and remove the absorber (N).

3. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio and the navigation system, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
4. Disconnect the battery negative terminal first, then the positive terminal.
5. Remove the battery and battery tray.
6. Drain the engine coolant, as follows:
   1. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll). Set the displayed temperature on the climate control system to 90°F (32°C), then turn the ignition switch OFF. Make sure the engine and radiator are cool to the touch.
   2. Remove the radiator cap.
   3. Loosen the drain plug, and drain the coolant.
   4. Install a rubber hose (A) on the drain bolt (B) located at the rear of the cylinder block, then loosen the drain bolt.
   5. When the coolant stops draining, tighten the drain bolt.
   6. Tighten the radiator drain plug securely.
   7. Remove, drain, and reinstall the coolant reservoir.
7. Remove the harness clamps (A), and engine wire harness connectors (B) from the battery base.

8. Remove the ground cable (A), relay bracket (B) and harness clamp (C), then remove the battery base (D).

9. Remove the upper radiator hose.
10. Remove the radiator upper brackets/cushions and condenser brackets.
11. Disconnect the compressor clutch connector (A), fan motor connectors (B), hood switch connector (C), and radiator fan switch C connector (D).
12. Remove the harness clamps (E).

13. Remove the two bolts (A) securing the radiator fan shroud, then remove the radiator fan shroud assembly (B) from the battery side.
14. Remove the two bolts (C), and loosen the two bolts (D) securing the condenser fan shroud, then remove the condenser fan shroud assembly (E) from the battery side.

Remove the two bolts (C), and loosen the two bolts (D) securing the condenser fan shroud, then remove the condenser fan shroud assembly (E) from the battery side.
15. Remove the lower radiator hose and Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) cooler hoses. Plug the ATF cooler hoses and lines.
16. Pull up the radiator assembly, then remove the lower cushions.
17. Remove the ATF cooler line, radiator cap, and drain plug.

To install:

1. Install the radiator in the reverse order of removal.
2. Set the upper and lower cushions securely.
3. Fill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air, as follows:
   1. Pour Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck.
      
      NOTE

      Always use Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail. Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50% antifreeze and 50% water. Pre-mixing is not required.
   2. The Engine Coolant Refill Capacity (including the reservoir capacity of 0.6 l (0.6 US qt, 0.5 lmp qt)): 7.6 l (7.0 US qt, 5.8 lmp qt)
   3. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm until it warms up (the radiator fan comes on at twice). Make sure the thermostat is open.
   4. Turn off the engine. Check the level in the radiator, and add Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   5. Set the displayed temperature to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 5 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   6. Check the level in the radiator, and add Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   7. Set the displayed temperature to maximum heat. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 5 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   8. Check the level in the radiator, and add Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   9. Set the displayed temperature to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 3 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   10. Check the level in the radiator, and add Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   11. Set the displayed temperature to maximum heat. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 3 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   12. Check the level in the radiator, and add Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   13. Repeat the previous 3 until the coolant level dose not change in the radiator, then install the radiator cap loosely.
   14. Set the displayed temperature to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 2,500 rpm for 1 minute.
4. Install the front bumper in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
   1. Make sure the front fog light connectors are plugged in properly.
   2. Fit the front bumper side stiffener pins (O) into the holes in each front fender.
   3. Make sure the front bumper engages the hooks (of the center and both corner upper beams) on each side securely.
   4. Replace any damaged clips.
   5. Install the front bulkhead cover in the reverse order of removal, and replace any damaged clips.
5. Adjust the hood latch, as follows:
   1. Remove the support strut from each side of the hood.
   2. Slightly loosen each hood hinge bolt.
      
      NOTE

      Adjust the hood alignment in the following sequence.
   3. Adjust the hood right and left, as well as forward and rearward, by using the elongated holes on the hood hinge (A).
   4. Turn the hood edge cushions (B), as necessary, to make the hood fit flush with the body at front and side edges.
   5. Adjust the hood latch (C) to obtain the proper height at the forward edge, and move the hood latch right or left until the striker (D) is centered in the hood latch.
   6. Tighten the bolts securely.
   7. Install the support strut on each side of the hood.
   8. Check that the hood opens properly and locks securely.
   9. Apply touch-up paint to the hinge mounting bolts and around the hinges.

6. Connect the battery.
7. Enter the anti-theft code for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the radio station presets.

2003-06 Models

NOTE

Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces. To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion. Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and navigation system, then wire down customer's audio presets. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery first, then disconnect the positive cable.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Remove the harness clamps (A).
4. Remove four mounting bolts (B), then remove the battery base (C).

5. Remove the radiator cover.
6. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector, hood switch connector (B), and fan motor connectors.
7. Remove the harness clips.
8. Disconnect the engine mount control solenoid valve connector (A).
9. Remove the ground cable (B), harness clamp (C), and vacuum hoses (D).

10. Drain the engine coolant as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll). Set the displayed temperature on the climate control system to 90°F (32°C), then turn the ignition switch OFF. Make sure the engine and radiator are cool to the touch.
    2. Remove the radiator cap.
    3. Loosen the drain plug, and drain the coolant.
    4. Install a rubber hose (A) on the drain bolt (B) located at the rear of the cylinder block, then loosen the drain bolt.
    5. When the coolant stops draining, tighten the drain bolt.
    6. Tighten the radiator drain plug securely.
    7. Remove, drain, and reinstall the coolant reservoir.
11. Remove the upper radiator hose.
12. Remove the bulkhead bracket.
13. Remove the two bolts (A) securing the radiator fan shroud, then remove the radiator fan shroud assembly (B) from the battery side.
14. Remove the two bolts (C), and loosen the two bolts (D) securing the A/C condenser fan shroud, then remove the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly (E) from the battery side.

Remove the two bolts (C), and loosen the two bolts (D) securing the A/C condenser fan shroud, then remove the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly (E) from the battery side.
15. Remove the lower radiator hose and automatic transmission fluid (ATF) cooler hoses. Plug the ATF cooler hoses and lines.
16. Remove the radiator upper brackets/cushions and condenser brackets.
17. Pull up the radiator assembly, then remove the lower cushions.

To install:

1. Install the radiator and fans in the reverse order of removal.
2. Install the bulkhead bracket in the reverse order of removal. Apply body paint to the bulkhead bracket mounting bolts.
3. Set the upper and lower cushions securely.
4. Fill the radiator with engine coolant and bleed the air from the system, as follows:
   1. Pour Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 (P/N OL999-9001) into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck.
      
      NOTE

      Always use Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 (P/N OL999-9001). Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail. Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Do not add water.
      
      
      
      NOTE

      The engine coolant capacities (including the reserve tank capacity of 0.6L (0.16 US gal)): After coolant change: 7.1L (1.88 US gal). After engine overhaul: 9.0L (2.38 US gal).
   2. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm until it warms up (the radiator fan comes on at least twice). Make sure the thermostat is open.
   3. Turn off the engine. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   4. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 5 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   5. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   6. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum heat. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 5 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   7. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   8. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 3 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   9. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum heat. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 3 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   10. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   11. Repeat the previous 3 steps until the coolant level does not change in the radiator, then install the radiator cap loosely.
   12. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 2,500 rpm for 1 minute.
5. Adjust the hood latch, as follows:
   1. Remove the support strut from each side of the hood.
   2. Slightly loosen each hood hinge bolt.
      
      NOTE

      Adjust the hood alignment in the following sequence.
   3. Adjust the hood right and left, as well as forward and rearward, by using the elongated holes on the hood hinge (A).
   4. Turn the hood edge cushions (B), as necessary, to make the hood fit flush with the body at front and side edges.
   5. Adjust the hood latch (C) to obtain the proper height at the forward edge, and move the hood latch right or left until the striker (D) is centered in the hood latch.
   6. Tighten the bolts securely.
   7. Install the support strut on each side of the hood.
   8. Check that the hood opens properly and locks securely.
   9. Apply touch-up paint to the hinge mounting bolts and around the hinges.

6. Install the battery. Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with sandpaper, then assemble them and apply grease to prevent corrosion.
7. On 2003-06 models, perform the power window unit reset procedure. Resetting the power window control unit is required after performing the following procedures:
   
   
   Disconnecting the battery.

   Removing the No. 8 (20 A) fuse from the under-hood subfuse box.

   Disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit.

   Removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel.

   Disconnecting the driver's door wire harness.
   
   
   1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
   2. Turn the ignition ON (II).
   3. Lower the driver's window all the way down by pushing the driver's switch to the second detent (AUTO DOWN) when the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver's window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for 2 seconds.
   4. Raise the driver's window all the way up without stopping by pulling the driver's switch to the second detent (AUTO UP) when the window reaches the top, hold the driver's window switch in the AUTO UP position for 2 seconds.
   5. If the window does not work in AUTO, reset the power window control unit according to the above procedure again.
8. Enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the audio presets.
9. Set the clock.
