How to Replace Power Steering Pump on Buick Park Avenue,Lesabre & Pontiac Bonneville?


Please Note:---
The Procedure mentioned is Exactly similar for All this mentioned car models.
Buick LeSabre, Buick Park Avenue & Pontiac Bonneville.

Power Steering Pump Replacing details are as follows:---


Removal & Installation For
3.8L ENGINE
4.6L ENGINE:---

3.8L Engine



  1. Remove the power steering pump drive belt.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.
  4. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the pump.
  5. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering pump .
  6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the power steering pump.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir.
  9. Remove the power steering pump retaining bolts.
  10. Remove the power steering pump.
  11. Transfer the power steering pulley as needed.
To install:
  1. Install the power steering pump to the engine.
  2. Install the power steering pump retaining bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  3. Install the coolant recovery reservoir.
  4. Raise the vehicle.
  5. Connect the wiring harness to the power steering pump.
  6. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  7. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Install the power steering pump drive belt.
  10. Bleed the power steering system.
  11. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.

4.6L Engine



  1. Remove the drive belt.
  2. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.
  3. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering reservoir.
  4. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
  5. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolt.
  6. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the power steering pulley.
  8. Remove the power steering reservoir.
To install:
  1. Install the power steering reservoir.
  2. Install the power steering pulley.
  3. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
  4. Install the power steering pump mounting bolt and tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  5. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump and tighten to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  6. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering reservoir.
  7. Remove the drain pan from under vehicle.
  8. Install the drive belt.
  9. Bleed the power steering system.
