Camshaft, Bearings & Lifters Replacing For 2007 Ford Taurus?

The instructions are similar for 2006 and 2007 ford Taurus Car models.

Camshaft, Bearings & Lifters
INSPECTION
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The details are as follows :---------

Inspection

Bearings & Journals
Check the camshaft bores for size, taper, roundness, alignment and finish. If any of these exceed the specifications given in the engine rebuilding chart at the end of this section, install new bearings or cylinder heads.
Camshaft
Degrease the camshaft using safe solvent, clean all oil grooves. Visually inspect the cam lobes and bearing journals for excessive wear. If a lobe is questionable, check all lobes and journals with a micrometer.
Measure the lobes from nose to base and again at 90°. The lift is determined by subtracting the second measurement from the first. If all exhaust lobes and all intake lobes are not identical, the camshaft must be reground or replaced. Measure the bearing journals and compare to the specifications. If a journal is worn there is a good chance that the cam bearings are worn too, requiring replacement.
If the lobes and journals appear intact, place the front and rear camshaft journals in V-blocks and rest a dial indicator on the center journal. Rotate the camshaft to check for run-out, if deviation exceeds specification, replace the camshaft.
Measure the camshaft journal diameter at the points shown in the accompanying illustration. If the If the diameters do not conform to specifications, replace the camshaft.

  1. Thoroughly clean the lifter and its bore, then check for pitting, scoring or excessive wear.
  2. On flat lifters, the bottom should be flat and not concave.
  3. If equipped with a roller, the roller should rotate freely without excessive play.

Removal & Installation

3.0L (VIN U, 2) Engines

NOTE
If the rocker arms, pushrods or lifters are to be reused, they must be installed in the same positions they were removed from.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Remove the engine from the vehicle and mount it on an engine stand.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Valve covers
    Rocker arms and pushrods
    Accessory drive belt and tensioner
    Alternator and brackets
    Intake manifold
    Valve lifter guide plate
    Valve lifters
    Crankshaft damper
    Oil pan
    Front cover
    Timing chain and gears
    Camshaft thrust plate

NOTE
If replacing the camshaft, the valve lifters must also be replaced.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Camshaft
Camshaft thrust plate and tighten the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
Timing chain and gears. Align the timing marks on the sprockets.
    Front cover
    Oil pan
    Crankshaft damper
    Valve lifters
    Valve lifter guide plate
    Intake manifold
    Alternator and brackets
    Accessory drive belt and tensioner
    Rocker arms and pushrods
    Valve covers
  2. Install the engine assembly into the vehicle.
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks and proper engine operation.
3.0L VIN S Engine
Left Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Remove the timing drive components.
  3. Remove the water pump belt.
    CAUTION
The OEM pulley is pressed on 0.18 inch (4.74 mm) past flush of the camshaft. The service pulley gets pressed on flush to the end of the camshaft.
  4. Using the tools illustrated, remove the water pump drive pulley and discard.
    CAUTION
In order to make sure of correct sealing, do not scratch the camshaft.
